Western dragons and East Asian dragons (Ryu/Long) are fundamentally different entities. Due to their similar appearances, they have often been translated using the same terms.
Western dragons are generally considered enemies of humans and targets for defeat. In contrast, East Asian dragons (ryu) represent supernatural phenomena and are objects of both fear and veneration.
The dragons discussed on this site are East Asian dragons. In East Asia, the appearance of a dragon is considered a celestial omen of good fortune and is regarded as highly auspicious.
