The legs of the incense burner are dragons trying to rise to the sky. The main body of the burner is adorned with designs of clouds and a phoenix, while the lid is topped with a shishi(lion). The smoke rising from the burner can be seen as part of the clouds, creating the image of a dragon rising to the sky, a motif known as "Rising Dragon," which is considered a symbol of good fortune in Japan.
The shishi is believed to ward off evil spirits. 
The phoenix, when paired with the dragon, symbolizes the balance of yin and yang. The dragon represents yang and the phoenix represents yin, and when both are depicted together, they signify harmony and prosperity. This combination is especially popular for praying for marital and familial happiness.
